The Lowcountry has a little of everything on its rooflines: historic homes downtown, raised houses on James Island and Folly Beach, metal roofs out on Johns Island, and newer two-story builds in Summerville, Goose Creek and Mount Pleasant. Each one sheds water differently, so we start every gutter job with the roof itself: how big it is, how steep it is, and where the water needs to land.
From there it comes down to four decisions: seamless gutters formed on site, the right gutter size, a style that suits the house, and a material that fits your budget and your street. A Solutionist walks you through each one before anything gets ordered.
Rain gutters for Lowcountry homes
The choices that make up a new gutter system, and where to read more
Construction, size, style, metal and protection. Here is how each choice plays out on Charleston area homes, with a link to the page that covers it in full.
Every gutter we install is seamless: formed on our truck from a coil of metal and cut to the length of that stretch of roofline. That decision is made before you ever meet us. The rest get made at your house, with a Solutionist standing in the driveway looking at your roof: how big the trough should be, which profile suits the architecture, which metal fits your budget and your street, and whether a guard goes on top.
Those choices affect each other. A half-round copper gutter on a historic home in downtown Charleston is a different job from a 6 inch K-style aluminum run on a two-story build in Summerville. A house on Isle of Palms or Sullivan’s Island may steer the metal choice because of salt air, and a stand of pines over the back of the roof can decide the guard before anything else.

Typical combinations on Lowcountry homes
- Single-story home in West Ashley, Hanahan or North Charleston: 6 inch K-style seamless aluminum in a color matched to the trim.
- Two-story build in Summerville, Goose Creek or Mount Pleasant: K-style, stepped up to 6 inch where the lower roof takes water from the upper one.
- Historic home downtown or in the older Mount Pleasant streets: half-round, often in copper that weathers to a patina.
- Home with a metal roof on the islands: Galvalume gutters to match it.
- Apartment building or HOA with long, low-slope roofs: sized for capacity, up to 7 inch through our commercial gutter service.
Why there is no plastic on our trucks
Vinyl gutters cannot be roll-formed, so they only come in short sections joined together, and every joint is a leak waiting for the next afternoon thunderstorm. Plastic also softens and sags through a long, humid Lowcountry summer. Metal gutters can be formed in one piece per run, and they hold their shape on the house through the hottest months. That is why every option on this page is metal.

Why the Brothers
Why Lowcountry Homeowners Call the Brothers
Gabe Gomez, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, owns and runs this territory out of Mount Pleasant. When you call (843) 867-2267, you reach the team that works Lowcountry rooflines.
The person who measures your roof explains what it needs and writes it down. No pressure, and no pitch for things your house does not need.
We are part of a national brand started in 1999 by brothers Ken and Ryan Parsons, and gutters are the whole business. That focus shows in the details, like how corners are sealed and where downspouts land.
Good or bad, every review goes up. We would rather earn the next job than hide the last one.

The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Charleston forms seamless gutters on site in 5, 6 and 7 inch sizes, in K-style and half-round, using colored aluminum, copper, galvanized steel or Galvalume. BroGuard fine metal mesh guards can be added on top. Each run is cut on the truck to the measured length of that stretch of roofline, so nothing is pieced together from stock lengths.
Size follows the roof: its square footage, its pitch and how many roof planes drain to one run. Style is mostly about the look, with K-style on the majority of homes and half-round where the gutter is meant to be seen. Material comes down to budget, lifespan, appearance and, on the islands, salt air. Your Solutionist covers all of it on site and writes the answer into your estimate.
A lot. Charleston averages about 52.5 inches of rain a year (NOAA 1991 to 2020 normals), and close to half of it falls June through September, much of it in afternoon thunderstorms. A gutter sized too small overflows in those downpours and drops the water at the base of the walls, under raised homes and across walkways.
Mostly what grows here: pine straw, live oak leaves, oak catkins and sweetgum balls, plus a coat of yellow pine pollen every spring that turns to sludge in the trough. Then a summer storm pushes all of it toward the downspouts at once. On homes under big trees, BroGuard keeps most of that out of the system.
Length of the runs, gutter size, profile and material drive most of it, plus the number of downspouts and whether you add guards. Half-round and premium metals like copper cost more than standard K-style aluminum. Your free written estimate lists each piece so you can see where the money goes.
Much more than the roof edge. Gutters keep water off fascia, siding, door and window frames, garage doors, porches, walkways, driveways, landscaping and the foundation. On a raised Lowcountry home, the first sign of trouble is usually rot on the trim or water pooling around the piers.
