Work that keeps coming
Why the Lowcountry keeps a gutter crew busy
You have probably walked under our work on a rainy day and never given it a thought. Good. Here is why there is always more of it to do around Charleston.
A gutter that is hung right goes quiet. It sits on the roofline and moves water every time a storm rolls in off the marsh. Around here that is real work. Pine straw, live oak leaves, oak catkins and sweetgum balls land in the trough all year, spring pine pollen turns to sludge in the outlets, and then the summer thunderstorms ask the whole system to move a lot of water in an hour.
That cycle is why homeowners call, and it is why the work holds steady. About 52 and a half inches of rain falls on Charleston in a normal year, close to half of it June through September, and people want their gutters cleaned, repaired and flushed before the wet months and again after the fall pine drop. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, so plenty of Lowcountry homeowners book early instead of finding a clog in the middle of a tropical downpour. Nobody can say what any one summer will bring, but the rain always shows up.
The houses keep it interesting too. Historic homes downtown, raised homes on the islands, metal roofs by the marsh and newer neighborhoods in Summerville and Goose Creek all shed water differently, and each one needs a system sized to its roof.
The rooflines you will work on
The team is based in Mount Pleasant and spends the day on homes across Mount Pleasant, Charleston, West Ashley, James Island and Daniel Island, north through North Charleston, Hanahan, Goose Creek, Ladson and Summerville, and out to Johns Island, Folly Beach, Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island. Every kind of house asks for something a little different.
- Historic homes on the downtown peninsula, including Charleston single houses with long side piazzas.
- Standing seam metal roofs along the marsh, many of them wearing half-round gutters.
- Raised homes on Isle of Palms and Folly Beach with high, long runs.
- Newer two-story neighborhoods in Summerville, Goose Creek and Ladson.
- Homes under pine and live oak canopy.
- Homes tucked under pine and live oak canopy, where the trough fills fastest.
Two ways in
Crew Member or Solutionist: the two roles side by side
The Charleston team hires for two kinds of work. Here is what each one involves and what our careers page asks for, in plain words.
Crew Members are why a house stays dry when a summer thunderstorm parks over the Lowcountry. You form seamless gutters on site from a coil on the truck, cut each run to the exact length of the roofline and hang it so the water lands where it should. The same crews take on repairs, cleanings, BroGuard micro-mesh guards, fascia and drainage. Solutionists are our sales side. You visit homeowners who asked for an estimate, walk the roofline, work out what the house really needs and write a straight, honest quote.
| Role | What you do | Training and support | What helps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crew Member | Install, repair and protect gutters: seamless runs formed on the truck, plus cleanings, BroGuard guards, fascia and drainage work. | Training on the Brothers system, on the job. Pay and schedule are not posted, so ask when you call (843) 867-2267. | Gutter, roofing or construction experience helps. Hard workers ready to learn a trade are welcome to apply too. |
| Solutionist (Sales) | Scheduled visits with homeowners who asked for an estimate. You measure, photograph and diagnose the roofline, then put a clear quote in writing. | Training on the Brothers system and our products. Pay and schedule are not posted, so ask about both when you call. | Construction, roofing, home services or field sales experience helps. Curiosity, honesty and reliability count for more. |
What we look for
A good attitude and showing up count as much as a resume here. The people who stick with this crew tend to have a few things in common.
- You like working outside and with your hands.
- You are on time, and you finish what you start.
- You are comfortable on a ladder, or willing to learn.
- You listen to a homeowner first and talk like a neighbor.
- You would rather tell the truth than push a sale.
- You care about a clean, straight line and a tidy driveway.
What you do not need
- A resume. On our application it is optional, not required.
- Your own truck for installs. We bring the trucks and the training.
- A gutter-only background. Roofing, construction, trades and military work all count.
- A sales script. Solutionists explain things in plain words.
- Years of sales for the Solutionist role. It helps, but honesty and follow-through count more.
- An account or a long online process. The form takes about three minutes.

A day on the crew
A real day on the Charleston crew, from first stop to clean-up
Here is what an install day looks like, start to finish, for a crew heading out of Mount Pleasant.
- Load the truck.Go over the day’s jobs, load the ladders and coil, and head out from Mount Pleasant to homes across the Lowcountry.
- Look the house over.A raised home on Folly Beach and a two-story house in Summerville shed water very differently. Check the roofline, the fascia and where the water has to go.
- Form it on the spot. Each seamless run comes off the machine on the truck, cut to the exact length of that wall, with no seams mid-run to fail later.
- Hang it straight and true.Set the pitch for Lowcountry downpours, seal the corners and outlets, and strap every downspout tight.
- Run water through it.Nobody calls a job done until water has gone through the system and drained where it should.
- Leave it cleaner.Walk the finished job with the homeowner, pick up every scrap and roll to the next stop.
Why roofers and construction hands do well on a gutter crew
If you have worked on roofs, framed houses or done exterior repairs, you already know the hard parts: working up high, reading a roofline and seeing where water wants to run. The difference here is focus. You stop bouncing between trades and get really good at one system. Never hung a gutter? Tell us you are ready to learn.
Not every job is a straight run. One Lowcountry homeowner wrote that they “needed gutters to specifically dump into rain barrels,” and the crew set it up that way. Work on underground drainage and fascia is part of the trade you pick up here.
How you grow
How you grow: training on the Brothers system
Our careers page is clear on one point: every new hire learns the Brothers system. Here is what that means for you.
The Brothers system is the same way of forming, hanging and finishing gutters the brand has used since 1999. You learn it on the job, next to people who already do it well. What the next step looks like for you, and what it pays, is a conversation to have with the team when you call. We would rather tell you straight than print something vague.
| Where you start | What you bring | What the path gives you |
|---|---|---|
| New to the trade and ready to learn | A strong work ethic and a willingness to learn | Training on the Brothers system on the job, beside a working crew. |
| Roofer, framer or handyman | Comfort up high and a feel for rooflines | A chance to get really good at one trade and one proven system. |
| Solutionist | Construction, home services or field sales experience helps | Training on the Brothers system and our products, plus scheduled visits with homeowners who asked for an estimate. |
What you will be good at
Everyone learns the Brothers system. On the crew side that means measuring, forming and hanging seamless runs in aluminum, copper or Galvalume, setting pitch, strapping downspouts, and handling repairs, fascia, BroGuard guards and drainage. For Solutionists it means diagnosing a roofline, explaining it plainly and putting an honest number on paper.
Every run you hang keeps a house dry for years, and you will drive past your work from Summerville to Sullivan’s Island. Want to know what the step above yours looks like? Ask the team when you call (843) 867-2267.
Who you would work for
How this team treats people, homeowners and crew alike
You are not joining a faceless call center. You are joining a local crew with a local owner who answers for the work.
Gabe Gomez, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, owns and runs The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Charleston out of Mount Pleasant, which makes this a veteran owned and operated team. Homeowners talk with him directly, and they say so in their reviews. You can read more about the team on our About page.
Behind the local team is The Brothers That Just Do Gutters, the national brand Ken and Ryan Parsons started in 1999. Gutters are all it has done since, and it calls the people who visit homes Solutionists, not salespeople. The name is already on trucks across the Lowcountry, so you start every visit with some trust built in.
What that looks like on a job
- Free, written estimates. Repair when that fixes it, replace when it will not.
- A written estimate before any work starts.
- A local number that rings a local team in Mount Pleasant.
- We publish every review, the good and the bad, and edit none of them.
- The driveway and beds get cleaned up before the truck pulls away.
- Someone reads every application. Nothing disappears into a void.
Homeowners name the crew
Our Google profile shows 4.6 stars from 135 reviews, and we publish every one. Read a few and you meet the people you would work beside. One homeowner wrote, “Justin and his crew did a fantastic job on our pool house and outdoor kitchen gutters!” Another said that talking to Gabe and working with the installers “all were a delight to work with.” A third noticed that “the boys on the job called me before they showed up.” That is the bar here.
